Machinery and Vehicle Hazards

All machinery requires training from management before use.

There is a 40kph speed limit on farm.

  • Tractor - use only as trained and approved. Always check for birds nest. Be familiar with areas to dangerous, steep or soft to take tractor - refer to hazard map.
  • Hilux - use within limits. This is the vehicle most likely to slide in wet conditions.
  • Quad bikes - use only has trained.
  • Two wheeler motorbikes - use only as trained.
  • Herbst tip trailer - don't move while tipping. Don't use quick hitch. Use a safety chain and hook directly onto draw bar.
  • Silage wagon - don't climb inside while tractor is running as the moving floor, chains and spikes are a hazard. Use a safety chain.
  • Mower - turn tractor off before working on mower or PTO. Only use if PTO is guarded. Check blades before use.
  • Front end loader - always check bucket/grab/fork is attached and locked before driving off. Ensure legal overhang or use flags when driving on road.
  • Fertiliser spreader - turn tractor off before working on PTO. Don't climb inside the fert spreader. Take care on hills with high centre of gravity. Don't get underneath fertiliser bags. Use silo where possible.
  • Flat bed trailer - use safety chain and secure load.
  • Marshall feed trailers - monitor for flat tyres.
  • Post rammer - use hearing protection and never put hands on post.
  • Direct Drill - use front end loader to load drill but don't get under bag of seed or fertiliser.
  • Roller and cultivation equipment.
  • Quad spray unit - trailer. Use at safe speeds and allow for extra 100kg when stopping. Agrichemical hazard applies - see general hazards.
  • Quad spray unit - mounted. Maximum 50L. Don't use on hills due to higher centre of gravity. Agrichemical hazard applies - see general hazards.
  • Mag Spreader - allow for extra weight.
  • Calf Trailer - check for deflated tyres. Ensure cage is secure. Has a slippery surface, particularly if wet or has milk spilt on it.
